PROGRAMMING & COLLABORATION

Everyday Work.
Lasting Impressions.

Give visitors a closer encounter with the labor, decisions, and practical skills of the Revolutionary era.

PEOPLE AT THE CENTER

Designed for your setting.

A museum visit, school program, or commemorative event calls for a different approach. We begin with your location, audience, and educational goals.

The following formats offer starting points for planning a program with OAS.

A laundry interpreter explains the process beside a steaming kettle, baskets, and linens.

Living-history demonstrations.

Watch the sequence of a task unfold: preparing a wash, working a seam, or tending a cooking fire.

An interpreter explains what the work required, who performed it, and what the surviving evidence can tell us.

Workshop participants examine fabric and practice hand sewing around a table of materials.

Workshops.

A focused session gives a subject more room: examine sources, compare materials, or work through the choices behind an impression.

Discuss the intended participants and their experience with us so we can consider an appropriate format.

A living historian discusses historical tools with a visitor beside a demonstration table.

Educational interpretation.

Objects and familiar tasks can open larger questions about wartime households, resources, and relationships.

We consider how those questions connect with your site’s specific history and the knowledge visitors bring with them.

A living historian hand-sews by the warm light of a lantern.

Collaborative programming.

For a larger event, civilian activity can form part of the surrounding military community rather than stand apart from it.

We discuss themes, participant roles, and practical arrangements with the host and other participating organizations.
